New Ways to Celebrate St. Patrick's Day with Slane Irish Whiskey

St. Patrick’s Day and Irish whiskey go hand-in-hand. No matter how your bar is celebrating this year, Slane is a great addition to the mix given how easy it is to mix or drink served neat or on the rocks. Receiving a 2020 San Francisco Wine & Spirits Competition Gold Medal and Wine Enthusiast Best Buy designation, Slane is a rising Irish star. We are celebrating by raising Slane on the rocks on March 17th and we hope you do as well to experience the robust flavor and see what we are all about.

Our triple-casked process creates complex flavor so that Slane holds up on its own, on the rocks, or in a cocktail. The blend of virgin, seasoned and sherry casks add to the robust profile while still holding on Slane’s Irish roots. The art of whiskey making is an ancient tradition which was almost lost in Ireland. In 2015, Slane revived the Boyne Valley whiskey-making tradition, blending ancient craft and modern innovations to create something as complex and robust as Slane’s history.

Coming from the Irish capital of Rock & Roll, we take our whiskey-making as seriously as our gig-playing. Slane Castle staged some of Ireland’s largest gigs and drew crowds from all over the world. In addition to the world-renowned concerts that welcomed over a million music fans to the grounds, a chart-topping album was recorded in Slane Castle. Our whiskey takes that passion and creativity and turns it into something to share alongside a favorite record. All your guests need to enjoy Slane is a glass but we prefer it with our favorite people and live music. That might not happen this year for St. Patrick’s Day but we are ready whenever it happens again. In the meantime, here's a few recipes you might want to add to your beverage menu.

slane and beerSlane and Beer

Although not necessarily a cocktail, Slane and beer go hand in hand, making it an easy pairing no matter how you are celebrating. As a staple to any Irish pub, this combination highlights different flavors within the whiskey due to our triple-casked method. We recommend trying a stout, IPA or pilsner to get the full experience but really any pint will do on one of the largest beer holidays.

Easy to add to any menu, this combination of three beers offers options and unmatched flavor.

slane and stoutSlane and Stout

A natural fit on St. Patrick’s Day would be trying Slane with a stout. When pairing Slane with a stout, the chocolate and vanilla sweetness combine with spicy notes of toasted oak from our heavy toast, medium char virgin cask.

slane and ipa

Slane and IPA

IPAs are known to have floral and citrus flavors with high bitterness from the hops. Slane’s seasoned cask is a Tennessee whiskey barrel that lends flavors of caramel, plum, banana, and butterscotch. These contrasting flavor profiles work like a sweet and salty pairing. The spicy green apple notes from the IPA complement the sweetness of Slane through the butterscotch and dark fruits. Floral notes from the hops bring out the subtle floral notes of Slane that are not present without the IPA.

slane and pislnerSlane and Pilsners

Pilsners are known to be crisp and refreshing. Slane’s Oloroso sherry cask contributes flavors of raisins and spice and when sipped together, the bitterness of the pilsner’s dry and crisp nature enhances the sweet dry and dark fruit flavors of Slane Irish Whiskey. With a combination like that, how could you not try it yourself?

Slane, Ginger, and Orange

Three ingredients, limitless flavor. Whiskey and ginger ale is easy to make at home or in a bar, only taking as long as it takes you to pour. Typically garnished with lime, the best way to serve a Slane & Ginger is with an orange wedge. This adds to the complexity by the citrus notes of the orange contrasting with the sweetness of the seasoned cask. The sweetness of ginger ale highlighting the flavors of dark fruits and butterscotch. This cocktail is an easy crowd pleaser—even if it's a small crowd.

Slane Irish Coffee

There’s Irish cold brew, espresso martinis, really any spin you can think of for an Irish coffee but nothing quite tops the classic -- in our humble opinion, that is. As a top whiskey cocktail, this is the perfect drink to impress a small gathering of friends at home or to adapt to at-home cocktail kits or to-go cocktails at a drop of a hat.

Our recipe, just like most things we do, takes the time to do it the right way, not necessarily the easy way. Trust us, it’s easy and tastes better. This is also an ideal to-go cocktail for individuals to take away or build themselves at home.
